Professor John Barry
John Barry is Professor of Green Political Economy in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queens University Belfast.
His areas of research include green moral and political theory; green, post-growth and heterodox political economy; the politics, policy and political economy of climate breakdown and low carbon energy transitions; normative aspects of environmental and sustainable development politics and policy; action and engaged research; the greening of citizenship and civic republicanism.

Why Climate Action?
Arguably the greatest threat that humanity faces in the 21st century is the potential widespread destruction caused by global warming. In 2018 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that the international community had 12 years to stop global warming exceeding 1.5C and thus avert the most catastrophic effects of climate change.
As of 2022 it is looking unlikely that this goal will be met. Therefore, in order to increase awareness of these existential climate issues and encourage individuals, communities and governments to take the necessary climate action, we at BMUCO will be hosting a series of climate-themed talks and conferences throughout 2022.
In BMUCO it is our hope that these events will inspire our followers to help fight against the current degradation of our planet, whether it be via the abuse of fossil fuels, the destruction of the Amazon rainforest (“the Earth’s lung”) or the plethora of other environmental abuses that our planet is forced to endure. Humanity only has one Earth. We must take care of our home.

Kevin Trenberth
He is a Distinguished Scholar at the National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder and an Honorary Academic in the Department of Physics, Auckland University in Auckland, New Zealand.
He was the lead author of 1995, 2001, and 2007 Scientific Assessment of Climate Change reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He served from 1999 to 2006 on the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and chaired a number of committees for more than 20 years.
Dr Helen Adams
Dr. Helen Adams is a COP26 science engagement officer and environmental social scientist working on the subjective dimensions of human interactions with environmental change, with a focus on marginal regions of low-income countries.
Helen worked with the Climate Change Expert Group at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris on policy frameworks for adaptation to climate change in the water sector and at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat supporting negotiations on adaptation and the implementation of the Nairobi Work Programme.
